The actual date when Eid al-Adha happens varies year on year, much like Easter and Eid al-Fitr, which is the ‘festival of the breaking of the fast’, celebrated at the end of Ramadan.

The date is based on the lunar calendar and the sighting of a new moon. The sighting of a new moon varies across the world, so the exact date can change depending on where you are.
