Delia's story

Delia (not her real name) was referred to Andrew Provan House (APH) three years ago. She had a 6-week-old son. In her early 30s, Delia was forced to leave her mother's home for her own safety and that of her child. She suffered depression, anxiety and panic attacks. She also lacked life skills and had little experience of managing practicalities such as budgeting and paying bills. In addition, she struggled with parenting.

With the help of her support worker, Delia started to establish a daily routine and was given practical and emotional support to help her build her confidence and develop the skills she needed to stand on her own feet.

She regularly participates in inhouse children's activities, residents' coffee mornings, house meetings, and workshops. She also has both group and one-to-one support to help develop her parenting skills. With the safety net of the APH team, Delia has developed strong independent living skills. She takes her now 3-year-old son to nursery and attends the gym, which aids her own emotional and mental wellbeing. She has become a responsible parent, keeping all GP and other health professional appointments, ensuring her son is up-to-date with all his vaccinations and milestone evaluations.

Delia is currently seeking a permanent home, and will continue to be supported by APH until she is settled into her new, independent life.
