Hollyhocks’ residents jump up and down

Clients living at at our Hollyhocks project, who have learning disabilities and autism, will soon have their own outdoor trampoline, thanks to a generous donation from Betchworth United Charities.

Trampolining is often seen as a good, fun way to exercise. But if you have autism, it can bring many more benefits. For an adult with autism, everyday life can be difficult to manage, with heightened feelings and behaviours leading to stress and anxiety. The way to help is to find diversions that will calm the anxiety and encourage positive behaviour.

Having access to a trampoline will provide an opportunity for these clients to build up confidence and self-esteem, either by participating or watching others. It is a straightforward, uncomplicated piece of equipment that can be enjoyed independently. This is so important for our clients, who need a lot of help and support to enable them to live independent and fulfilling lives.
