Giving to charity is not just about receiving cash donations. Gifts in kind also play an important part in enabling Field Lane to continue to deliver exemplary services. Furniture Box – the online retailer selling household furniture – recently donated sets of dining room tables and chairs and coffee tables to Andrew Proven House (APH).
APH provides a safe haven for vulnerable families who have been made homeless. Furnished to a high specification, this home offers young families the chance to get back on their feet and live in a secure, comfortable and supportive environment. The families have suffered a range of difficulties, including drug abuse and domestic violence.
Here at Field Lane we believe in offering a home that is genuinely a pleasant environment, not just a roof. The surroundings play a key role in aiding the residents’ recovery. No matter the circumstances the individuals and families find themselves in, having a nice place to live, with their own front doors, makes a huge difference to self-esteem and confidence.
One of Furniture Box’s founders, Dan Beckles, said: “ We were delighted to help and in such a practical way too. Being young ourselves - we started Furniture Box three years ago, when the other founder, Monty George and I were just 18 – we know how hard it is to get a start in life. For the young families APH is helping, it’s even more difficult. We hope that our small contribution will make a difference to the people Field Lane is helping and make them feel more at home.”
