Wood Street gets a garden make-over

Thanks to a generous donation from the Greendale Foundation, our Wood Street garden project will soon be up and running. We have exciting plans to design and build a sensory garden, with all-weather access for our clients to enjoy at any time of the year.

Wood Street is home to six residents with a range of learning disabilities, including mental health issues, physical disability, epilepsy, autism and other challenging behaviours. The medication used by several clients to control their conditions has left them particularly sensitive to ultraviolet rays. To help manage this, the garden design will incorporate overhead sails to deflect the sunlight.

A sensory garden will play an important part in enhancing the living conditions for our clients. It will be full of interest and stimulation, broken down into sections and ‘rooms’ for clients to explore. These spaces will have different colours, scents, types of shade and tactile experiences. All the spaces will be wheelchair accessible.
