Six go adventuring

Exmoor National Park was the destination for six of our residents on a week’s adventure holiday. Part-funded by money raised at the Old Vic in London, the group went to the Calvert Trust outdoor adventure centre. The trust runs activity holidays designed for people with disabilities.

There’s a huge array of adventures to choose from, such as kayaking, sailing, swimming, abseiling, rock climbing, cycling, horse riding and archery.

Our residents – who have a broad range of disabilities but love a challenge – were excited about trying something new.

As well as the physical activities, every evening there was entertainment; a disco, film night, bingo and even a trip to the local pub for a meal.

The week was very busy but great fun, with our residents taking full advantage of the experience – a first for most of them, who would not otherwise been able to afford such a holiday. Plans are already being made to go again next year.

One resident said: “I had a fantastic week, it was amazing. Thank you very much for one of the best weeks ever.”
