Family support with a family focus

Our main aim is to prepare families for independent living and to give them the skills to sustain their tenancies, make good life choices and thereby have stability. Families placed at Andrew Provan House come with a wide variety of needs, ranging from; tenancy sustainment, budgeting, daily living and social skills, parenting and, in some cases, previous domestic or other violence. By focusing on the family as a unit, we aim to provide families with opportunities to work towards stable family life. Through Andrew Provan House, families access welfare services, education, health services, parenting and relationship skills, child care, healthy lifestyles and nutrition awareness.

Training in courses such as Food Hygiene and First Aid are also available. At Andrew Provan House, diversity is recognised and valued by celebrating faith based cultural events such as Christmas, Easter and Eid, through shared suppers and birthday parties. These popular events are usually held in the communal lounge and/or the garden and form an opportunity for social gathering aimed at encouraging client involvement and peer support. Tenant participation in updating rules relating for example to communal facilities, ensures that families take basic responsibility for their own safety with consideration for others.

Service user feedback

A new start in life

B, a teenager, was asked to leave the family home when she was found to be pregnant and was involved in a violent relationship. When she came to live at Andrew Provan House, Field Lane’s supported accommodation, she was given assistance to prepare for the birth of her child, develop new parenting skills and gain confidence to leave her partner. Unfortunately her ex-partner attacked her and B had to be hospitalised and was attended by the Field Lane support team. We finally had to move her somewhere he could not find her.

Six months later, B came back to visit the project looking confident and stunning. She said to her key worker: “You may not have thought I would listen to you but when I left here I thought about what you had all said to me and decided I needed to get my life together for my baby’s sake”.

B has now reconciled with her family and enrolled on a college course.
